Helder and Jose Costa grew up in the quiet town of Lagoas, Cantanhede, Portugal — a place where life was simple, resources were few, and family meant everything. In their modest home, the comforting scent of freshly baked bread often filled the air. It wasn’t fancy — just honest, homemade food that brought people together.
In 1974, chasing the promise of new opportunity, the Costa family made the bold move to Canada. Like many immigrants, they arrived with little more than determination, grit, and a dream for something more.
Caldense Bakery was originally founded in 1968, serving Portuguese breads and pastries to a growing community.
The Knot Guilty French Bakery Bakery
Welcome to the only Artisan Organic French Bakery in Etobicoke! We are specialized in Organic Authentic Sourdough Breads & Pastries with long fermentation, and Artisan Croissants. All our flours are without pesticide, or GMO and are from Ontario. Make sure you place your online order with us from Thursday to Sunday of every week. Pickups are Thursday & Friday 5-6:30 PM and Saturday 8:30-10:00 AM. We take no walk-in clients. Our bakery operates from home and is fully licensed and inspected by Toronto Public Health. We look forward to baking for you!
