Helder and Jose Costa grew up in the quiet town of Lagoas, Cantanhede, Portugal — a place where life was simple, resources were few, and family meant everything. In their modest home, the comforting scent of freshly baked bread often filled the air. It wasn’t fancy — just honest, homemade food that brought people together. In 1974, chasing the promise of new opportunity, the Costa family made the bold move to Canada. Like many immigrants, they arrived with little more than determination, grit, and a dream for something more. Caldense Bakery was originally founded in 1968, serving Portuguese breads and pastries to a growing community.

Artisanal small batch French bakery specializing in venoisserie, patisserie and sour dough. Found in the heart of little Italy nearby mother and sister establishments Pompette and Bar Pompette. Opening soon Plenty of grab and go offerings including beverages, for a quick snack lunch or to take home for a party.

We are proud geeks who love celebrating our passions through the most lovingly made desserts using only the best ingredients all with a delightfully geeky twist. We first make everything taste delicious… then we make it all look amazing forever feeding the internal struggle of “It looks too good to eat”, while rewarding those that take the first bite.
